Help answer the question about Furminator Large
Why are the furminator dog brushes cheap here?
I was at the pet store looking for the Furminator Large furminator and they were 54.99 for a large. I went online and found the large at www.furminatorplus.com for 24.99 with free shipping. Why is the price so low here?

this is a heavy shedding dog which you hopefully knew before you got him. I have a shiba inu and he sheds excessively too. I feed him a grain free food taste of the wild (cheaper than iams) that is better quality than iams…but can only be found in a pet store. Supposedly a non-grain food can help aid in preventing shedding. You can only get this food at a smaller pet store (i dont think petsmart or petco carries this brand.) If you do switch, do so very gradually to prevent upset stomach, gas, and diarrhea…gradually change over a 2 week period. Aside from that, you can try to give him some Lipiderm capules (these are sold OTC at pet stores and contain salmon oil and other vitamins) and may hep prevent the shedding some. Either way, this dog will always shed to some degree. Good luck!

Both the medium and the large are yellow, so color will not help. The medium is 2.65 inches wide and the large is 4 inches wide; since the blade area is straight and rigid it would depend on the size of the dog but I am thinking with a husky the medium would actually keep more of the tool in contact with the dog’s coat at any given time. The video on their website actually shows a blue (small) one being used on a Golden Retriever…http://www.furminator.com/testbed/indexnew.html

I don’t own a Roomba but a friend with a Boxer,Basenji and Siamese cat loves hers and swears by it.

If animals need nutritional supplementation of energy or Vitamin A cod liver oil (and other fish oils) are a good idea, However, if your pet is eating a balanced complete ration you could provide too much Vitamin A. Many pet foods are already supplemented with vitamins and can already contain large amounts of Vitamin A.Don’t give cod liver oil supplementation unless you are sure you won’t exceed the toxic dose for Vitamin A in your pet. Ask your veterinarian for his/her advice.< http://www.provet.co.uk/petfacts/healthtips/codliveroil.htmHowever, this supplement is excellent to help produce the healthy skin and coat> http://springtimeinc.com/product/88/2The Pro Plan does already provide enough Vit.A.. It is a good quality kibble.

Large breed puppy Eukanuba is great for them. A brand called Royal Canin (yes, Canin is spelled right) that makes dog food specifically for certain breeds, and I know I’ve seen german shepherd. It’s great, too. A good treat is always a milk bone in my opinion. They are healthy and dogs love them. My dogs also get Pupperoni. They LOVE it. But make sure you get lean pupperroni because it is fattening for dogs. Just any extra large crate will do. Make sure you don’t buy one to fit the puppy but think about full grown size. I prefer the ones that are more of cages instead of crates. They seem much more comfortable. I will list a link to one in Sources. Elevated food and water dishes are always the way to go with large breeds. With dishes on the floor, dogs can pull their neck muscles. Get a set that comes with large bowls that come out of the stand so the bowls will still work until the dog grows larger. Once again, I will show one in Sources. Get a large dog bed that is washable. You may think it will stay clean because they will only sleep in it, but my dogs run over and sit in it after everthing, including playing in the mud. Personally, I like to have a couple beds, that way while one is washing they will still have a bed. And we can have one in two different places. Chew toys are good, but make sure you get very tough ones, like Kong toys. You will need these especially when the puppy is teething, because it will want to chew. Kongs are also boredom busters, because you can put food in them and dogs will spend a long time trying to get it out. For bones, I would recommend Lucky Dog Smoked Hickory Bones. They are wonderful. I’ll give you a link below. Any wire brush will do, go to Petsmart and ask a groomer there. They will feel your dog’s coat and tell you what is best. Furminators are GREAT for shedding dogs. They are a lifesaver for couches. They are very pricy though. You will need collars and leashes. Just make sure whatever you get is chew resistant and tough. A tie out leash is always great for when you want to let a dog outside but also want to keep a good watch on him. Just get a heavy duty one that is not chain. They come in up to about 24 ft. Puppy pads are important for potty training. This will help puppies get the smell of grass when they pee and you will need them for when you leave the puppy alone because puppies cannot hold it in for very long. You may want to consider a dog gate for when you leave the house. You can get one with a little swinging open door so it can stay open when you are home. You just never know what a dog will get into while you are gone. Or what a puppy will pee on. Doggy wet wipes are always great to have around the house. They are sold at all pet stores.Last, but definetly not least, you will need love. Have fun with your dog!!

Be careful, you can cause bald spots, it works like crazy, so the large would be good, but I recommend the medium, it does a nice job on a Golden Ret very well.Friends have Golden’s and she uses the medium……It has some power to it…so don’t bend over and let your hair get to close, or we will be taking up a collection to get you a new wig LOL

First, make sure she is getting a high quality diet, you would be amazed how much quality food helps with shedding the make sure the skin and coat are healthy with regular bathings. I love my furminator but most of my dogs have always had an undercoat which this product excels at taking out. I think this is the best deshedding tool out there. You can also try deshedding mitts and slicker brushes, those may work even better with a single coat short haired dog.

Bathing doesn’t stop shedding, it only dries out a dog’s hair and coat. Your dog should only be bathed when absolutely necessary, and definitely not more than once every 6 weeks. There’s nothing in the world you can do to stop any dog from shedding. You got the wrong breed if your brother is allergic to dogs. You can control a lot with good diet and regular grooming, but you can’t stop it.

Yes, the furminator is EXCELLENT! It really works at getting loose hair out! :) With a JRT, I would recommend a medium size (gets more coverage in less time). If you’re cost concerned, however, you can settle with a small sized one.Hope this helps

I use one on both my DSHs and one of the longhair cats I pet-sit for – it is miraculous in getting out loads of underfur that you couldn’t even imagine was there! It’s important, though, not to comb too hard with it as that can cause skin irritation and flaking. Is it possible to love a Furminator? <3:o)

The size really doesn’t matter. It works the same no matter the size. The larger size will require less time to use it than a smaller size, but they both do the same job.
