Actually Ray is wrong. A wire brush – or any brush for that matter – should NEVER be used on a longhaired cat. Brushes do very little to remove the loose hairs of the undercoat – the hairs that cause mats – and can pull out and break topcoat hairs. Longhaired cats should be COMBED – not brushed.A slicker brush actually is the best brush to use on shorthaired cats. “Thin” sounds a bit odd, though. Is your cat loosing hair? If so – get it to the vet. If by thin you mean a very light, cottony coat then a more gentle brush that’s similar to that but with rubber teeth would probably be better.
