Help answer the question about Harness Leads
i tried to make a harness out of a slip lead?
and he hates it. all he did was roll over on his side and lay their till i let him out. i made sure it wasn't tight and if he wanted to walk/climb he could have but he wouldn't get up even if i tried to put him on his feet. i do plan to get him a real harness, i want to take him on a walk with me sometimes. He is an indoor cat. He doesn't wear a collar yet since he is too small for any i find at the store. once Harness Leads he gets use to wearing a collar will he be a ble to be trained to walk with a harness and lead. what am i doing wrong? also when i got the lead to fit as a harness and put him on the floor to let him walk around and get use to it, first he looked at me like he was angry, then looked all depressed. is my cat going to be scared of me for doing this? He acts like i am hurting him. As i said before i made sure it wasn't too tight. hes laying in my lap asleep right now so im sure he knows i love him, but he acts like hes being abused when told no for biting me when putting on the lead, as if to say "your doing this to me? i should be able to do this to you. mama why"for all you mean people out their i don't hit my cat. and when he gets too aggressive with my hands (because he was weaned too early) i just tell him no and spritz him with a little water. he is 9 weeks old, just in case anyone wants to know

For dogs, leads with a slip collar of some kind. Harnesses are for pulling and encourage dogs to do so. You don’t want a dog that pulls. They should walk quietly by your side without leash tension. Cats require a harness as do ferrets or they’ll pull right out of a collar. Their bodies are a bit more streamlined and it’s easier to keep them under control with a harness. I suspect a pig would require a harness as well due to the thickness of their necks.
With my pom I sometimes get x small but I have to try things on her to make sure. She has her full coat and sometimes I have to get a size larger so it will not be too tight on her.
I foster and volunteer for a min pin rescue . Their Necks are the same size as the head and can slip out of a collar in a heartbeat . On my own and my fosters I use a collar for holding tags all min pins or dogs should wear there tags and an ID tag . Then for walks or outings out of the fenced yard I use harnesses on all the min pins . Its just safer that way if you want to use a collar check out Martingale type collars . i myself dont like them i feel safe with the collar for tags and the harness .
I have. I also have used them for rats
It takes a little more practice, but he’ll get used to it.
i bought a “figure 8″ style harness when i first got my ferret but soon found it to be completely useless as it would pull her front legs back so she would end up pushing herself around on her chin with her back legs! I have since bought a much more practical “H” style harness and although it was still a bit too large with a bit of alteration it can quite easily be made to fit the smallest ferret. (now mine tries to find other ways to slip her leash, like walking backwards!)the type i have is from pets at home (UK)hope this helps
I have a Yorkie and he is exactly the same way. The vet said it’s because he is really insecure and probably prefers the comfort of his home than being out in the big bad world. I started taking him outside before I put his harness on he seems to be a little better. I also started walking with my neighbour and her dog who is a little more confident. He tends to be a little better when he’s with her. Hope that helps.
Unless it is a harness designed to eliminated pulling (ie, clasps in the front, so when they pull, it turns the dog around) they tend to encourage pulling! It’s like tying a dog to a sled! MUSH!
